The Atlas cedar is a large evergreen native to Algeria and Morocco. It’s primarily an ornamental tree that thrives in temperate climates. Ancient Egyptian manuscripts indicate Atlas cedar oil was used in the mummification process. Like other species of cedar, Atlas cedar is a natural insect deterrent, and the wood is used in the manufacture of furniture such as wardrobes and drawers. For aromatherapy purposes, Atlas cedar oil has a potent, pungent aroma that’s woodsy and slightly sweet.
